Itinerary

Day 1 Transfer to Bukit Lawang

Our driver will pick you up from your hotel or Medan Airport, both centrally located. Then, begin your journey to Bukit Lawang. After a scenic 4-hour drive, you will arrive at your destination. The driver does not speak English. However, there’s no need to worry. Once you arrive, our professional tour guide will welcome you at the guesthouse in Bukit Lawang.

Day 2 Jungle Trekking

After breakfast, you will begin your jungle trek at 9:00 a.m. in Gunung Leuser National Park. During this adventure, you’ll have the chance to see wild orangutans in their natural habitat. Throughout the 7-hour trek, your guide will share insights about the local wildlife, flora, and fauna. After lunch, the journey continues deeper into the jungle. Along the way, you may encounter more wildlife. In addition, you’ll learn about trees and plants that are traditionally used as medicine.

In the late afternoon, your guide will choose a suitable spot next to the river to set up camp. Afterward, you are free to enjoy the fresh water of the Bohorok River. You can swim, help prepare dinner, or even try your hand at fishing and Following dinner, and if the weather allows, our team will prepare a bonfire. This way, guests can relax on the riverbank before settling down to sleep, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the jungle and river.

Day 3 Jungle Trekking

The following morning, you’ll wake up to the sounds of the jungle. Around the campsite, there’s a good chance to spot Sumatran monitor lizards, tortoises, and colorful river butterflies. After that, your guide will take you to a nearby waterfall, where you can swim and relax.

After lunch, you’ll leave the campsite by traditional rafting boat, also known as the “jungle taxi.” As you follow the river downstream, you’ll return to the village of Bukit Lawang. From there, you’ll transfer by air-conditioned car on an off-road journey (2 hours one way) to Tangkahan and Along the way, the jungle roads can be bumpy and lead you through small villages. Eventually, you’ll witness the stark contrast of palm oil plantations stretching endlessly—evidence of the rainforest’s destruction.

Day 4 Tangkahan Elephants Bathing

After breakfast at 9 a.m., guests will join the daily bathing ritual and help wash the elephants in the Buluh River. This activity lasts up to one hour and is operated by our partner, CRU/LPT. During the experience, you can also spend time with the mahouts.

Afterward, take time to decide how you want to enjoy the rest of your day in this hidden paradise. For example, a swim across the river will take you to a natural hot spring, perfect for relaxing.

Following your activities, get ready for the journey to Kuala Namu Airport. The drive takes about five hours, offering one last chance to enjoy the natural scenery on the way to your departure.
